Sorry for the lack of post over the past couple of weeks. I experienced a sudden change in my life in July. I am about to move on from my current job. It is kind of a bittersweet decision for me. I like the current job:- the work is exactly what I am interested in and what I studied for (at uni) many years ago. It is multimedia, adult learning, a mix of design (graphic + web) and programming. The clients vary all the time so there is little risk of getting bored. You can play the “this too shall pass” mentality if you’re stuck in a boring project (it does happen). I also sit in a quite comfortable position where I can make and influence technical decisions relating to projects and to some extend, the company, and I EXTREMELY love my immediate team, the admin ladies and the people from my division that I work with over the past 2.5 years. However, Canberra (and Australia) is a small place, I am sure we’ll cross path again soon. The exciting new role I am moving into exhibits signs of tremendous potentials to learn new skills and to grow technically. It is also in a high-growth IT area, eHealth. So I feel like I will be doing myself a big disservice if I don’t explore this opportunity further. Hence, the decision. I will update my about page soon so you will know what my current company is. I won’t publish the name of the company I am about to join, but if you follow my twitter, you shall catch on in the next few weeks. The company is fairly active on twitter so I am sure I’ll be RT-ing their exciting news quite a bit. Until then…

When they first appear, Facebook shops used to annoy me. But lately, due to the characteristics I will mention down the page, I have grown to accept them and even started to prefer these shops to shop online compare to buying from ebay or any other eCommerce shops. No, I am not talking about people promoting their shops or online shops on facebook. Using Facebook to promote your business means you already have a shopfront (offline, online or both). Your main purpose of talking about or post photos/videos of your products on facebook is to direct your friends to your main shopfront. Examples as follow: Despite the name, do visit my friend’s hotel in Bogor: http://www.hotelpapaho.com For cute and truly original t-shirts, visit another friend’s online shop: http://virtualonmars.spreadshirt.com Facebook shops are people who primarily sells goods and services via the internet. They do their business by: upload loads of photos of their products online, tag a lot of friends who may be interested (or who may have friends that will be interested in their products) post product descriptions on facebook (underneath the album/photos) communicate with their shopper on facebook via private message (pm), walls or comments receive order on face book (again via pm, walls and comments) getting their shopper to pay them either via bank transfer or paypal receive feedback and testimonials on facebook Some examples: I actually didn’t know who owns Godiva Shoppe. It came out on my stream because my friend was tagged on one of her items. My friend runs a yummy facebook shop selling the best quality hand-picked bags, shoes, wallets, women’s accessories at cheaper price compare to some eCommerce shops out there. I am not releasing her shop’s name until I can get a confirmation that this is not privately facebook only . If I got her permission, then I’ll update the blog. Unfortunately, unless I know you in real-life (or if you’re not my boss or boss’ boss), you won’t be able to get into my friends list on facebook. At the moment, I found that most facebook shops are owned by Asians (although this is possibly because 80% of my friends on facebook are asians.. LOL). They are mostly selling clothes, bags, shoes, accessories, baby products, skin care, TUPPERWARES (OMG MAX!! *roll eyes*). There are a couple of shops popping out selling electronics and services (i.e. art/illustrations) but mainly I come across the aforementioned items. I guess the main advantage facebook shops have over other online communication (apart from zero cost set up) is Breaking the Trust Barrier and Lightning Speed “Referrals.” TRUST The main issue with shopping online is TRUST, not whether or not the products (clothes/shoes) will fit you or is as described. People are getting savvier shopping online. Clothes or Shoes dont fit? Sell them onwards or donate them. Tupperware’s broken when received? Return them to sender. Disappointed with the product? Tough! I’ll give it to someone. Change your mind? Don’t really need the item? Happens all the time even in real life and we still shop. However, people don’t like getting SCAMMED. They...

Just a quick post to recommend these two FREE tools I used recently to manage my twitter. I have been neglecting my twitter account for a while, preferring to just check email notifications rather than log into the twitter dashboard or desktop client. In the meantime, my direct message (DM) inbox is getting full and my followers increase including spam bots, marketers, etc. I used to get baffled by why do people follow inactive twitter account. Until I realise that I accidentally left some scripts on to auto-follow my follower. So, a few months later I have followed a good couple hundreds of people I dont know or not interested in. Anyway, there are a couple of tools out there you can use to unfollow people and mass delete the content of your DM inbox. My favourites are these two: Manage Twitter * Clean up and manage who you follow. * Find out who isn’t following you back. * Find out which inactive accounts you follow. * Easily search inside your Twitter stream. p.s. I used to use Twitter Karma & untweeps fo unfollow and follow people. However since twitter’s new policy is against mass action, some of the twitter tools I used (twitter karma), didn’t work very well anymore. Hence, Manage Twitter is my new favourite. and DM Deleter / DM Whacker Bookmarklet Twitter does not allow you to mass delete direct messages from the dashboard. If you are like me and have been spammed with hundreds of DMs after a few months, this little bookmarklet is a gift from heaven. Remember, these tools are free. They also need third party application access to your twitter. So, use it at your own risk. That’s all for now, peepz. I’ll try to find some more interesting thing to write… but life has been comfortable and cruizy over here. You don’t feel like doing anything when that happens.

Why do we want to have a lot of twitter followers? The two basic answers are: Marketing If you are a business person or a sales person you would already know about conversion rate. The basic of sales is number game. The more customers or visitors come to your shop, the higher chance of you making a sale. For example, if you have 10% conversion rate, and you have 100 people visiting your shop in a day, on average, you will be making 10 sale. You can then increase the sales by increase the number of visitor/traffic increase the conversion rate (e.g. to 20%) – which we will cover another time. Twitter is the same. If you are marketing your website/products/services to more twitter followers without increasing your conversion rate, you can increase sale/website visitor or whatever item you are marketing. Advertising $$$ Did you know that people will pay you to tweet? Depending on how many followers you have, you can increase your advertising fee. If you are a blogger, a web advertiser or a reviewer, you can use both your websites/blogs and twitter account to promote product and services. Since sales is a number game, the more follower you have, the more clicks and conversion
