Fiji Destination Wedding – Sheraton Fiji Resort, Denarau Island, Fiji Got hitched!!! Special thanks to: Miriama Komailevuka (wedding planner, Sheraton Fiji Resort) for the best stress-free wedding experience, and Susana Stolz (Chief concierge, Sheraton Fiji Resort) for the friendliest customer service, room upgrade, attention to detail for an excellent holiday/honeymoon Isoa Tokalautawa from Tokman Imagez for the awesome wedding photos. Fiji beats Hawaii.. hands down!! Nice islands with beautiful lagoons for snorkelling, friendly people, good food, sun, pool, jetski safari and many many more. I am glad we chose Fiji as our wedding destination, instead of Vegas, Hawaii, Phuket or Bali. We’ll definitely come back for another relaxed island holiday.

I have always loved dogs and would like to own one. In the past, these are a few major reasons that stops me from getting a dog in Australia (despite me being so impulsive);- We were renting – it’s harder to find a place to rent when you have pets I moved a lot for work and study (3 cities, 20 different places in the past ten years) Now, I am kinda settled, have my own place with space big enough to keep a small-medium sized dog or two. However, as you grow older, sense of responsibilities and common sense come along. (Or, in my case, I have my bunny to remind me of these responsibilities). We’ve decided not to get a pet for a couple of years now. Due to these reasons: We both work full-time and I also travel interstate quite a bit for work. So, most of the time the dog will be left alone at home. Noone to play with the dogs at home during office hours. By the time we’re home, we’ll probably be busy cooking dinner, cleaning up and want to enjoy some ‘me’ time and ‘us’ time. We both have severe case of travel bugs. We travel at least once (for three weeks) for holiday… sometimes up to three times a year. We’ll have to find someone who will mind the pet while we are away. Pet lodging could easily double our holiday cost. Pets are expensive to keep. I used to have dogs in Indonesia but my parents take care of the bill (food, clean-up, vet, etc). So I never really feel the burden. In Australia, the cost of pet food and pet-related bill (e.g. vet check up, medical cost, etc) are higher. Pets are expensive to buy – at least for the breeds of dogs I that I want. Puppies cost a minimum of $500+sundries at the pet shop. You may be able to get them from RSPCA or any animal rescue place for lower place but you may not be able to get the exact breed that you want. You need to spend time with your dogs, take them for a walk and exercise. If you neglected your dogs, the authority will come after you (i.e. pet cruelty). You also have to pick-up after your dog if you take them for a walk (can’t ask a maid/servant to do it here – too expensive). I’ll probably be able to find a work-around for the above reasons if I really want to have a dog. However, the main reason why I am not getting a pet right now is: We don’t have kids now but we’re planning to start a family in a few years time. It’s better to have kids first before considering getting a pet because apparently puppies/dogs get jealous when you have kids. They want the attention and time you will to give to your kids. However, if you have the kids first, the dogs won’t get jealous because the kids are already there when they join your family....

I am on holiday and I wasn’t planning on blogging. I don’t think I will have time for it because I just want to relax and spend time doing tourist stuff. The old Jakarta Even if I blog, I did not expect to blog about Jakarta. I am not particularly fond of this capital city of Indonesia. Even though I am from Indonesia, I did not have very good impression of the city. From my previous trips, I only remembered the weather (very hot), the crowds (too many of them), the rubbish (it’s very dirty), the traffic (you could spend 2 hours on 1 km car trip) and that I never had a good time there. My mum always told me that the city is dangerous and I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere without my family. I also used to found that people on the street are also not very friendly. The unplanned trip I thought I would be blogging about the other legs of my trip, either Singapore or Thailand, or both. However, this time, I found myself strangely drawn to the Jakarta part of the trip. The Jakarta trip was also unplanned. Originally, I thought I have to spend 6 days 5 nights in Singapore. The Great Singapore Sale is on, and I might just go shopping, shopping and shopping. However, Singapore is a very small city and I found the shopping is not as cheap or as good as it used to be. I don’t feel like shopping there is a bargain anymore. So I decided to just spend a day in Singapore and go to Jakarta to see some old friends from Perth who now lives in Jakarta. The New Jakarta Well, it’s not exactly the new Jakarta. Yes, it has evolved. There are more malls, more shops, more things to do, more restaurants, etc that what it used to be. But Jakarta is always very cosmopolitan, fast-paced and growing rapidly even after the city’s bad moment (Indonesian Revolution 1998). The city is still dirty, traffic is still really bad and the crowds are everywhere. HOWEVER, I found that the city is not as dangerous as it used to be. The facilities have also vastly improved and modernised. There are more and more educated and smart people in Indonesia who noticed the bad things and make it their business to fix it. For example, I used to be really scared travelling alone in Jakarta (I still am ) but I notice there are more facilities that will make me feel safer to travel solo in Jakarta. Taxi used to be really dangerous and the drivers would try to rip you off. I belive that is still the case in some. However, The Blue Bird Taxi (.. group) builds up their reputation to be the safest taxi in Jakarta. When other taxi companies realise that they are losing customers, they fix themselves. You can now order official airport taxi from Sukarno-Hatta Airport rather than queing, pick your...

At the risk of repeating News.com.au headline, please see the full story here: http://www.news.com.au/travel/story/0,28318,25624073-5014090,00.html My first thought is “go to another disneyland.” Then I found this comment from one of the reader: Darren of Brisbane Posted at 12:30pm today is anyone else confused about the “to make up for the family’s Thai nightmare” and the article then says they were originally to fly to the US in May when she was trapped in Thailand. Sounds like they already planned on going there (why didn’t she have a US visa before Thailand then?) and has now run to the media with a bit of a sob story that no one is caring about because she’s probably done her money on the flights. He made a really good point. Looks like this is another case of celebrity wannabe. What do you think? Frankly I found this story a bit annoying.. not that I care much to begin with. I am a firm believer, if you can not abide by the law and customs of the country you are visiting, just don’t go. Don’t go looking for trouble by breaking foreign’s law then cry to the media asking for pity or beg the government to spend our tax money to save you from facing the result of your own stupidity. Smart people will notice that the offender is just a loser but there will be some ignorants who will just support him/her in ruining the tourism industry of that country. Did they not realise that they are ruining other people’s lives, especially if these people’s income are dependant on tourism industry (like most people in Phuket or Bali). Oh well.. at least they provide some entertainment.. making people laugh at them, their behaviour and stupidity. Last month Alexander Downer wrote this piece of article about ‘Looking after yourself overseas.’ I wholeheartedly agree with him on this.
