About 2 weeks ago, I blogged about my interest in Japanese Manga and Anime art and our online community, here. My blog post was automatically posted to twitter and facebook. That piqued some interest from ex Anindo members who are following my tweets and/or in my facebook friends list. They then told their friends who in turn tell their friends about the blog post. The ex-Founder suggested that we created a tribute to Anindo. So I did. I re-activated Anindo.net and uploaded all the impromanga files and some artworks Anindo produced in its heyday. At this stage it was still for nostalgic reason only. Apparently, I am not the only one who got all nostalgic about it. There was a mass communications going back and forth on facebook between a few ex-members. Then one ex-member decided to create an Anindo Reunited facebook group. It’s purpose was to gather all members on facebook. Within 2 days of group setup, we gathered 40 ex-members on facebook. Then, all missing administrators from every corner of the world are found. Everyone was excited. Everyone was missing Anindo. Everyone wants Anindo revived. So we decided.. it must be fate. 7 years after it was dissolved because life happened, ANINDO is back… FULL FORCE. So, ex-members, if you read this post… or if you know an ex-member or two.. direct them to Anindo (Reunion) website. We’ll start or resume our Impromanga, share artworks and life tips, produce anthology and many more. Anindo is very dear to me. This community played a big role in my early career life, partly responsible for shaping where I am today. So, here is my latest pet project for the community;- a fully social-media integrated community wordpress website. The website was set up only 3-days ago. We are still very young (yet old enough to make a comeback). We have achieved so much in a short time, but there’s still quite a bit to do. So take it easy, ex-members only for now, while the administrators are sorting out the backroom.

Ok, being a geek, a person of Chinese descent (hence the love for money and good deals), lazy, and naturally a greedy person, I met the stereotypes of people who should have been easily sucked into the hopeless world of shortcut to riches. Luckily I have a wonderful group of friends and family who would rescue me or knock some sense into my head before I sink to the deepest pit of any get-rich-quick scheme. Perhaps these were also the reason why I once joined Amway many years ago and wasted a lot of money. I did learn a very important lesson though – sales. But that’s for another story. Anyway, I have attempted making money online through a couple of ways. Some works.. some don’t. Mind you, when I started, the Internet was not mature enough. (Geezz… I spoke like a wizened user of the Internet). Internet connection was still very expensive. So it wasn’t as easy as nowadays. I am going to list the top 5 ways to earn money online that I have done before. This method will be ranked by profitability (Profit $$ = revenue – cost). Your cost will be both time and money cost. The prerequisites to any of the following method is: Good Internet Connection (as low cost as possible, free would be ideal – you may steal your neighbour’s wireless connection or you can work at an Internet Cafe while doing this). A computer to access the internet.. DOH! Willingness to learn and embrace the concept (ability to withstand any insult or objection from your non-geek friends who claim they live in real world). None of the method I am listing is a get rich scheme. They require EFFORT!! If it’s too good to be true, it probably is not true. Note: Do not attempt to do any of these during working hours – unless you want to get fired. The easiest way is no. 1. Anyone can do it. Number 2 – 5 requires some webmastering skill. 1. Selling DIGITAL PRODUCT on EBAY I have found that if I have a good resalable digital product, I am always able to move them on eBay. In the past I have sold: eBooks Templates (HTML, Flash, etc) Web Scripts (PHP, JavaScript, etc) Domain names Websites eBay works on the concept that sales is a number game. Your product has very high visibility. Even when you are selling an absolute garbage, you may still make a sale. However, if your product is unique, useful and properly targetted, your conversion rate is higher. My highest selling products are web packages. I scoured the internet for resalable templates, web scripts and eBooks, sort them out (lots of crap out there), repackage and sell them as downloadable package for $10 or $15 as CD/DVD. I also made sure that I wrote a compelling sales copy and provide good photos to entice ebay users to buy my package. In the past, with minimum effort, I used to move...

Some friends approached me with question about where do I buy my domain name and web hosting. While it’s a very straight forward question to answer, it reminds me of one of the biggest mistake that I made when I was still a newbie. That is paying full price for domain and hosting. I hosted my domain name primarily with GoDaddy. When I was a newbie, I usually ignored the coupon field on the checkout because I don’t have a discount coupon. I also don’t know where to get one. Nowadays, I googled for GoDaddy discount coupon to make sure that I don’t pay full price. Sometimes GoDaddy has special promotion of U$1.99 or U$ .99 per domain name. Most of the times, they do 10%, 20% or $6.99 per domain name. I used to host my website with GoDaddy too, utilising their discount coupons. Generally, they are very good. The site is up 99.9% at the time and the server is fast. Their customer service is also 24/7 and they have Australian number so I dont have to pay for IDD if I need urgent thing solved. I stick with them for a few years because I have been burnt by a few cheap and small hosting companies before. However, their Custom hosting control panel irked me to no end. It is not flexible at all. I prefer industry standard hosting control panel like cPanel. I can’t upload and unzip archives on the fly. The last straw is they do not allow me to run Cron Job more than every 30 mins. My newest twitter application requires me to run Cron Job every minute. So obviously their hosting no longer meet my application. So, I have decided to move my web hosting this month to this company. With 50% off coupon, I only paid for AU$40/year for an unlimited linux hosting. I am not sure if the coupon code will always be valid so I am not publishing it. But, please leave a comment on this entry if you want it.

I have been actively publishing and working in the web and multimedia design industry for almost 10 years. I have witnessed the evolution of the Internet and how it has changed people’s lives. There was the dotcom boom, the information revolution and now there is a phenomenal increase in social media use. I have decided to utilise the best of what the web can offer to give something back to the community. In about a month time, we will be launching an international community site that will donate 100% of its profit to charities. The good news is… Even if you do not have any money, you can still make a $$$ donation to the charity. That’s right!! At the moment, I am committed to support only one charity organisation, Compassion Ministry. It is my charity of choice. Eventually I will add more organisations for people to contribute to. The ultimate plan to allow volunteer members to set up mini-sites, offer services (both paid and free) and allow people to make zero cash donation to the charity of their choice. Sounds like a good idea? Please watch this space for more information.
