So, I went to Perth last weekend. The last time I flew there was almost 2 years ago. I’ve caught a lot of domestic flights (Virgin and Qantas) on the East Coast, but not coast to coast. I took Virgin from Canberra to Perth via Sydney. On the way back, I took Qantas direct flight from Perth to Canberra. Anyway.. Virgin, budget carrier, no expectation, but.. I was surprised when they fed us on the way to Sydney. Apparently flights between 4pm-7pm, to and from Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney are considered capital connect and that means we got complimentary beverages and snack. I haven’t taken these flights before as I usually took morning or lunch-time flights. I don’t usually drink alcohol so can’t comment on the wine but the snack we got was cheese crackers. It’s not one of those cheaply packed cheese and water crackers you can get from supermarket. It is actually very nice, very high quality gourmet cheddar cheese with some nice crackers too. The plane was delayed by one hour in Sydney, so my transit time was increased from 2 to 3 hours. Considering, I was recently delayed by 10 hours by Air Pacific/Qantas code share to Fiji in December, this is no biggie. The real surprise was when I board the flights to Perth. Virgin must have just refreshed their fleets. The Airbus A330 has brand-new leather seats, almost empty flights (so we can sprawl across 4 seats in the middle, if we want) and free movies. I also loved the disney-quality animated safety video Virgin has. This is the first time I actually watched safety video from start to finish. I haven’t done this since I was a child. The guy in that video looked like that dude from the Tangled movie. Here’s the video.. On the way back, Qantas use smaller plane. There’s no delay. The flight was also almost empty. There’s no free in-flight entertainment on-board… which is annoying for long flights. However the staff were quite attentive, and food and drinks were served on regular interval.

What a great end of year proposal! May you two live happily ever after! Meme Proposal | Tim * Audrey from Crazy Monkey Studio on Vimeo. This Meme proposal video was made when Timothy Tiah proposed to his girlfriend Audrey. It’s so geeky, cute and lovely. I nearly got all teared up.. because well.. I am a geek too, and it is so cute. I read Audrey’s blog every now and then. Found her not long ago from Cheesie’s blog. I think she runs Minimaos with Cheesie. So, the video is extra special because in a way I sort of know who she is… not just some random stranger in Malaysia. Timothy is co-founder of Nuffnang. I am not a Nuffnang member but if you read lots of Singaporean or Malaysian blogs like I do, you probably know what Nuffnang is. Kudos to the video development company. The video is so well made. Apparenty it got so popular that gizmodo featured it, even Ryan Seacrest and Christina Perri tweeted about it. The soundtrack is Christina Perri’s a thousand years. The same soundtrack as on Twilight’s Breaking Dawn part 1 movie (Bella’s wedding). Read more about the proposal on Audrey’s blog or on Timothy’s blog.
Since I am no longer belong to a Consulting company, my professionalism has taken turn for the worse. I rock up to work in jeans 4 days a week…with sneakers. I no longer know where my work shirts, skirts, pants, etc are. My wardrobe are much more colourful (no more boring black or gray or white outfits). My laptop wallpaper is cute. My desktop wallpaper is cute. I hang fluffy keychains on my handbags, Oh, check out my latest iPhone cover.. It’s a PINK BUNNY!! It looks like a toy, no? It looks so cute sitting on my iPhone charging deck. (Sorry about the qualities of the photos, I used my old 2mp camera phone from my old sony Ericsson K660i) It has FLUFFY tails!!! XD XD XD From the front… The ears stick out from between my hair when I am talking on the phone. The tail can be used a stand, LOL… so I can stare at it’s cuteness. There’s no way in hell the office manager (and line manager, client relation manager, practice manager, etc) would let me get away with it. My branch manager might… but he has a pretty laid back attitude towards anything. My co-consultant would probably be too embarrassed to be associated with me. I am liking this back-office-I-am-a-programmer-I-rule-the-world kinda role. I missed the travel perks, though. (Recruiters, current and prospective employers, please pay attention)!! In my previous consulting company, it was heaven travelling at the Company’s expense I am pretty stingy when travelling with my own out–of-pockets expense. Not long ago, I had a last minute travel to book, and all cheap-ish tickets from Qantas or Virgin Blue were sold out. So I traveled on Tiger Airways domestic from Canberra-Melbourne for the first time. The boarding process in Canberra was like getting on a bus. Well.. I guess, you get what you paid for. I was at the front entrance (top of the stairs).. here’s the view of the rear entrance. There were also a lot of people queuing behind me so, the front entrance did not fare any better. *Excuse my big-as finger here*. More view for the rear entrance queue. There’s something decidedly wrong when you have to queue on the tarmack all the way from the terminal gate to the plane door. NEVER AGAIN!!! Don’t get me started on Tiger Terminal in Melbourne!!! P.S. In terms of comfort, seats allocation, on-board service, etc… it’s not that much different than Qantas or Virgin. It’s just the ground-service that annoyed me. P.P.S. In terms of safety, I know Tiger Airways is grounded in Australia. Honestly, I wouldn’t have a clue… I arrived in both destinations safely without any drama… didn’t notice the plane skidding or anything.

This is so funny. When I first saw it I thought, oh no… some dodgy Chinese government officials trying to fool their public. Apparently not. Apparently there was a real photo and the road inspection did happen. For some reason, the photographer/graphic designer/web administrator just decided to use this badly photoshopped picture of those Chinese Government leaders inspecting the newly built road in Huili County, Sichuan, China. The Huili county government officials issued an apology and took down the photo from their website. But not before it becomes the latest internet sensation. The parodies: I hope they were not too hard on the person responsible for putting up the original floating photo above. Afterall, the whole incident helped us know where Huili county is. Any promotion is a promotion.. right? Besides, kudos to the Huili county government for apologising and taking action to remedy the situation.
I haven’t blogged for a while, so I thought I’d post this to let you know what I’ve been up to. It has been a strange time at work.. for the past few months I have been a graphic designer for print materials and also digital ofcourse, a copywriter/marketing extraordinaire, a web analyst/programmer, a database person, and the latest.. …that person who can make our logo run. The good thing of being a Multimedia person (even though officially, I am supposed to be a User Experience Analyst developer) is I get to do a wide variety of work. So it’s never boring (at least not for a prolonged period of time). It’s been a long time since I do timeline and graphic based stuff in Flash. I have always been making interactive assets using Action Script (that programming thing that comes with Adobe Flash). My WIP.. (yes, it’s a picture of a pig dragging a pink suitcase as my desktop wallpaper) I am supposed to make a little stick figure (stickman) runs and incorporate it to a cloud-based security application.. yea, I know… some of you will go.. Huh?!? Well, as long as it makes sense to me, and fun. Sorry, it’s blurred to protect what may come out from my company soon. Although it’s pretty pointless since you can find out who I work for from my linkedIn.
