I SOLD my Treadmill!! Yaaayy. You may remember that I had a big purchase I regretted back in March. Anyway, I posted my treadmill for sale on a local Classifieds Site and a lovely couple bought it. It’s good to know that they will make better use of the treadmill than me. I was probably only on it for 5-6 times
So the western union scammer…
***WARNING! Long Post Ahead!***
I posted my treadmill on the Classifieds site. Received quite a few enquiry about it. The notable one is this fellow here (who later turn out to be a scammer)

Date: Thu, 7 May 2009 07:24:06 +0800Hello,
The treadmill is still available. I have attached pictures for you to have a look.
I have been getting questions about the treadmill, so here is the answer to those questions just in case you are wondering about the same thing.
There is no model number on the treadmill because it is a non-branded one. I bought it from solazsales when they had a promotion on ebay. I have receipt dated 3 March 09 for warranty purpose. Their in-store price for this treadmill is 1,090 + delivery to ACT. Their current promotion is 899 + delivery for the same model.
This treadmill is practically new, only 2 months old. Originally bought because my gym membership has expired. I have probably be on it 5 times max before deciding to renew my gym membership. Please remember that this is quite a big and heavy treadmill. So, if you decided to buy it, you will need to have someone help you moving it.
Cheers,

Regards
Dangol.——————————————————————————–
That email was my first warning bell. I found it weird that he does not have a bank account. Even if he works offshore, he should still have a bank account. Secondly, I know with paypal, you can reverse payment within 30 days if you open a dispute claim. So I am a bit wary.
So I checked with my boyfriend, boyfriend reckoned it could be legit because some people who works offshore get tax-free salary so they dont want to have an Australian Bank Account.
Anyway, it’s paypal. If it’s disputed… we’ll dispute. So I decided to respond.

Will your pick-up agent be a courier service?
I can unassemble the treadmill and put them back in the boxes with all the wrappings intact – unless you prefer it assembled (but it will be harder to move when assembled).
The only problem is, the treadmill is big and heavy and it’s actually on the first floor of my house so your agent will need to carry it downstairs. You’ll probably need two people. Will that be ok with your agent?
If this is ok, let me know what agent will you use and I’ll set up and send the paypal address to you.
Cheers,

Ummmm… OK…
It’s gonna cost you minimum $600 return per person to come to Canberra from Perth (if there is domestic flight sale, maybe $400). I think it’s about 3-5 days driving if you come by car. Why would you come all the way from Perth to pick up the treadmill. Let’s say 2 people travelling, it will cost them approx $1,000 to get the treadmill and back.
My treadmill is $700. With $1,700, why dont you just buy a new treadmill???? I was tempted to suggest it to him being a good person that I am
.
However, I have decided that it’s not my problem… maybe they are en-route to Canberra on business. Anyway, I just want to sell the treadmill.

OK, obviously the first thing I checked if the legitimacy of the emails, then my paypal account to see if the transaction has been reflected there (pending transaction, etc). Obviously, there is none. So, am I stupid enough to transfer the $800?
LOL.. ofcourse not. However, I did some research. There are quite a few cases of this type of Nigerian Scam. Google ‘Advanced Fee Scam,’ and you’ll see. Anyway, I received the emails at about 1am in the morning. Obviously there is no post office open. At 2am, I send this email to him:

Date: Sat, 9 May 2009 02:05:17 +0800Hi Dangol,I got the email from paypal. But the amount will not be released until I wired the money to your agent. So, I went to the post office and they said it’s going to cost me $45 to wire the 800 to UK via Western Union.I am not prepared to spend an extra $45 especially if the money is tied up to paypal. I am about to wire $800 out of my pocket. Can you send an unrestricted amount of $45 to my paypal account? I can then withdraw the $45 and use it to wire the $800. If this is a hassle, maybe you should buy from someone else.
Thanks,
Patricia

I have called may agent and he told me that you can deduct the $45 from the $800 and send him the remaining $755 so that when he go for the dropping of the treadmill,he will collect his balance from the person that will sign the papers.
so you can deduct the $45 from the $800 and send him the remaining,as soon as you have done that, you will have to send a copy of the scanned receipt to paypal so that they can credit your account…
Thanks for your help and I hope to read from you soon.
Kind Regards.
Dangol.
Obviously cant scam the scammers
He also probably didn’t realise that no post office is open at 2am in the morning.
So, I stopped playing game. I reported this to paypal, ACCC ScamWatch and I am also going to let the Classifieds site know that scammers may be using their website to find victims. I am also ignoring the scammer’s emails.
During the next 2 days, I received quite a number of private calls to my mobile. However, I always… ALWAYS put my phone on Silent. Any number, email or any personal information about myself that I made public are usually secondary information. So these phone calls did not annoy me at all.

Paypal Email 4:
Dear Valuable Customer:
Be aware that you are 100% safe with paypal and you do not need to worry about anything therefore you should make proper arrangements with the buyer on how to get the excess funds sent for your account to be credited as soon as you email us with the receipt.
Be informed that the payment received from Micheal Robby (Who???? They should at least get the names consistent before sending email) will only be credited into your account as soon as you email us the receipt issued to you after the money has been sent. We are still waiting to receive the requested details from you, be informed that as soon as you email us with the scanned copy of the receipt given to you at the western union agency hereby confirming that the excess payment has been sent out to the bearer, your account will be credited at once.
The money has been deducted from the buyer’s account and will be credited into your paypal account as soon as you send to us the payment receipt hereby confirming that the excess money has been sent out to the bearer via western union money transfer only as requested by the buyer.
The transaction has been screened and has proven to be 100% legal and real. You are hereby advised to go ahead with the transaction and wire out the said fee to the bearer, For security reasons email the western union payment receipt to paypal only and wait till your account is being credited before emailing the receipt to the buyer, therefore you can go ahead with the transaction.
We are assuring you a 100% safety as we are doing this to secure both the buyer and the seller. The transaction has been verified and your money is safe with paypal.
Be informed that if we do not receive the payment details from you within 48 working hours, your paypal account will be limited and suspended. (LOL… now I have been threatened).
Paypal Team.
After two more emails (one from ‘paypal’ and one from the scammer), everything just died down.
To be honest, I found the whole experience hilarious rather than annoying. Probably because I did not fall victim to it. However, I have decided to post this experience to warn people about it. I can see how someone who is new to the internet, western union and paypal may fall victim to it.
LOL, have just had the exact same guy emailing me to buy my bike and almost the exact same emails!! but i have to thank you, i Googled the guys email address and found ur post, couldnt stop laughing when i saw how identical the series of emails were.. anyway here is the email that made it so obvious that it was a scam… LOL

Hi
Thanks for posting this guy just emailed me to buy my car off drive.com.au, I knew it was a scam but the idea of getting rid of the car was tempting
Thanks for the comment guys. I have also received a few emails saying the same thing about these guys (Dangol Hariss, Peter Collins, Micheal Robby, etc). Hopefully this post is useful to stop them from action.
Hi Patricia,
Thanks for the posting. It was certainly useful as I didn’t have to spent much time to be certain it was a scam. Your page came first when I googled his name. I couldn’t help laughing seeing the same line used to scam your $700 treadmill and my $35K car.
This guy tried to ‘buy’ my car as a surprise for his dad. He just replaced ‘son’ with ‘dad’ and ‘item’ with ‘car’.
BTW, I got another offer from a guy in Scotland who is going to by my car (in Sydney) for his business in Africa. I’ve ignored it so far.
Dangol is a busy guy. He is buying my car too… His son/dad will be sooo happy with the surprise.
Thanks Patricia, I will be reporting it.
Hi Patricia
Thanks for your post, this was a great help. Seems like Dangol still hasn’t found a car for his dad and thought mine would be a great alternative to Ben’s, Adhya’s, Andrew’s or Austin’s bike!
Ha! I am so glad I googled our our mate “dangol Hariss” after he emailed me the exact same email to buy my car for his sons birthday – Funny thing was he never mentioned “car” once in his long winded message only that he wanted to buy my “item”!
Again thank you Patricia, your page came up straight away and it was great to see your warning has saved many people from this scammer!
Cheers
i recieved just the same wanting to buy my car for his dad
so funny LOL
its great people arnt getting sucked in
Thanks for the laugh Pat, I have had Dangol Harris send identical messages wanting to buy six of my cars advertised, I am a car dealer in Canberra and these guys seem to be targeting Allclassifieds but are too stupid to notice that their emails have gone to the same email address for six cars in ten minutes.
Glad nobody is being fooled by these thieves.
Tony
P.S. keep an eye out for “Kian Morgan”, “Larry Moore”, “Jeyifous Mark”, “Patrick Adnan”, “Dapo Egebi”, “Susane Wenger”, “Gary VanderVoort”, “Alex Nuga”, “Louis Mark”, “Hendrick Bertis”, “todd newberry “, “Johnny Dang”, “John Mionskowski” and more that I can’t be bothered finding, they have all contacted me with the same scam.
Makes me wonder if Allcalssifieds can possibly not know about the extent of the problem.
Cheers
I really liked this post. Can I copy it to my site? Thank you in advance.
Be very careful with this guy dangol Harris. I have received an identical email from this ‘marine engineer’ to buy my wife’s car for his dad’s birthday. No inspections, agent to pick up. ‘Very generous thief’.
Hi,
Thank you so much for this post. I just got all the same emails too from him wanting to buy my car for his dad! I really need to sell it, so I was almost fooled, but picked up on the spelling mistakes and typed his name into google.
Cheers
Hahaha – had a good laugh when I googled the guys name… Tried to do it to me!

This John Mionskowski is trying to buy a van I posted on an internet site for truckers. I sure am glad I goggled his name and found this web site. Something in his e-mails just didn’t seem right. Thanks again.
Norm
Thanks for posting the experience. I received the same email yesterday while trying to sell my car online on carsales.com.au. I smell a rat immediately as KNOW ONE will buy a car without looking at it.
I just copy the message and pasted it on google and found your story. Certainly helps to confirm that its a SCAM.
Below is the email I got.
First email – I will like to make an offer of $16,700 for your car, pls let me know if you accept my offer? (I’m selling it for $16,500.)
Second email – Thanks for the mail,i am buying the car for dad and i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and i really want the car to be a surprise for dad so i wont let him know anything abt the car until it gets delivered to him , i am sure he will be more than happy with the car.I insisted on paypal because i dont have access to my bank account online as i dont have internet banking, but i can pay from my paypal account, as i have my bank a/c attached to it, i will need you to give me your paypal email address so i can make the payments asap for the car and pls if you dont have paypal account yet, it is very easy to set up, go to http://www.paypal.com.au and get it set up , after you have set it up i will only need the e-mail address you use for registration with paypal so as to put the money through.I have a pick up agent that will come and pick the car up after i have made the payments.

Oh Yes…This time his name is GREG ALAN and his email is

Thanks for posting the experience. I received the same email today because i was trying to sell some oldtimer carparts.
I should nod have send money but reading your experience makes everything easeyer.
Thanks
Hans
Good one with the treadmill. I really thought it was funny. Particularly that the crook thought two cities in the same country couldn’t be that far apart! LOL
Anyway John Mionskowski is now trying to buy a car worth $8 and spend $4G to ship it. But he has upped his game. Asked for more information and is spending some effort on getting some details correct. Thankfully stupid but even stupid gets lucky now and then so everyone should be on their guard.
Thank you for your posting as it has helped out a lot with a guy named John Mionsköwski from Scotland. He was willing to pay $12,000 for a car he has never seen before. I sent him pictures of the exterior since that is all I had.
He never said anything about a paypal account though, he just asked for my mailing information so he can mail me a cheque. I found this very suspicious because he never answered my questions about how he was going to ship it. I have attached my e-mails with him so everyone will know what he is up to.
Hello John,
I am glad to hear that you are serious about purchasing the car but I would like to wait till I am able to send you all the accurate information over the Christmas holidays to make sure that this car is truly what you want and are willing to pay to have shipped overseas. I hope you understand but I do not want you to pay all the costs for this car and not be satisfied. I have made some mistakes about a couple of things; we do not have the receipts for all the work that has been done on it and it has had the roof replaced. I will contact you as soon as I am able to provide you with all the information.
I would like to thank you for your patience and understanding.
Best Regards,
Tracy

Hello John,
I have been told that the asking price is $12,000 but they are open to reasonable offers. Like I said in my last please contact Carol at cccat@shaw.ca if you have any questions about the price. She is the one who decides what she will accept for an offer. I am only able to supply the car facts and information.
Thank you,
Tracy

Hello John,
I would like to thank you for your inquiry, I have attached all the specs that I know off hand and some pictures. It’s actually my mother in-law that is selling this car so I have forwarded her your information. I am going to let her talk about the price she is asking so if you would like to contact her, her email address is ???@shaw.ca. I only have pictures of the outside of the car right now, I am hoping when we go up for the Christmas holidays I will be able to take interior pictures and get more information for you. I could not help but notice your address is in Scotland, would you be shipping the car overseas?
This had 91,242 original miles, everything is original on and in this car. This was the 1985 “Show Stopper” show car for the 1985 Vancouver, British Columbia car show. It was purchase on the trailer heading for the show so it is the original owners who are selling this beautiful car. We are hoping to find someone to continue to love it and appreciate what a great car this is. There have been $12,000 put into restoring it and receipts are available. If you wanted to put modified collector plates on it you can in 2010. It has also been re-certified with ICBC.
It has the following original parts: 305 V8 engine, fuel injectors, rims, stereo decks, interior, same paint colour scheme with red pin striping.
???-???-???? (Powell River, BC) her name is Carol.
Please let me know if you have any other questions as I will try to find the answers to them now. If I do not know the answer I can find out the answer when we are visiting them for Christmas and I will be able to look into it myself.
Best regards,
Tracy
